My wife and I have been talking a lot lately about positive mindset, self motivation and belief, both of which I feel are so important to success in any endeavor. She, being an avid reader, suggested I look in to the book “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne. I’ve heard mixed reviews about it and wanted to get some feedback from visitors like you. What do you think about the book? Have you read it?
The main review I heard was semi-negative – if you don’t “heal yourself” from all issues you have, you probably just don’t believe hard enough that it will happen. As many of you know, I’m a firm believer in positive power. However, I know that some things are out of our control. Health is one of those things (for the most part), and there are other things we just can’t control: the weather, our neighbors, other people’s attitudes, etc. I think the biggest thing we can control is how we react to things that are out of our control.
So, let me know if you’ve read the book “The Secret”. If you have, did you like it? Is it a good read? Thanks in advance.
Here are a few reviews I found at Amazon.com:
Oh my gosh, this was the best book ever! For so long now, I have been waiting for it to be my turn. After reading this book I didn’t realize that it was always my turn! I just had to want it and rid my head of doubt. Now all of a sudden everything is falling into place. The world would be a better place if this was required reading!
I finished reading this book in no time, I couldn’t put it down, now I am re-reading it. It is so wonderful. I have recommended it to so many people, and they can’t thank me enough for it. The book is so true, it has changed the way I think, and how I look at things. Just believe!
If you need to read anything at all about thinking positively, pick up a Dale Carnegie book. This book is hooey. Cure cancer in 3 months just by thinking?? I’d give that a one in a million chance! Between this daffy author and her crony, Joe Vitale, they are metaphysically transporting themselves to the bank, depositing money that YOU should have contributed to charity…believe me, you would feel better doing that.
The Secret unclogged my sink, aligned the steering in my Tercel and made me a dynamo in the sack, all because I imagined those things to happen! Wait, did I just give away the Secret?
More to come…

I haven’t read the book, but I have watched the movie. Very good principles. I can totally see how people could just shrug it off as metaphysical mumbo jumbo, but the principles are simple. If you focus on something long enough, you are bound to achieve it. Same idea behind Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich!
I would seriously recommend reading this! I thought it was a mandatory watch for Prosper employees? Ha Ha. Seriously though, it really is a life changing book about the Law of Attraction. As for the negative review, i would be willing to bet that that person is BROKE. Another great read i would recommend is “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind” by T. Harv Eker… this is another book that has literally changed my life! Enjoy the read, or just ask anyone at work to borrow the DVD!
I have read the book and gone on from there. It has definitely changed my way of thinking about my world. I can look back and see where I have definitely created what has happened (good and bad) in my life. The principles are right on. I have heard them many time over the years, but the way this book somehow presented it, I now “really” understand how “it” works. I understand “Laws” of nature, which helps me understand the “Law of Attraction”. It makes perfect sense. And it is working whether people understand it, believe it, or even know it exists. It has changed my way of thinking and I have seen many positive changes already in my life. If nothing else, I am much much more positive than I have ever been and I continue to improve. Yes, I still get hung up on old negative thinking, but I am able to turn it around much more quickly. Knowing that I control what I bring into my life, including health issues, I am able to take life by its reins and make changes.
Great comments! I still haven’t read the book but know that positive mindset has such an effect on the outcome. Zig Ziglar said this once:
Thanks for the great feedback Linda, Ryan and Dan.
I saw the movie, “The Secret” several years ago when it was more “underground”, before the book came out and it became more “mainstream”, when Oprah had the main authors on her TV show. I really KNOW that the Laws of Attraction and Manifesting work through my own personal experience. One of the authors talks about trying out manifesting by creating parking places. I now have been doing this for years with fantastic success. It is a joke with my family, but they always say, “Mom, manifest a parking space before we get to….” and I do. They don’t believe they can do it, they just think I have the magic touch. I believe everyone has the power within themselves to manifest small as well as big things. If I can manifest parking spaces, I can manifest jobs, trips, relationships, and success. I also believe that God is the source of this power that we all have within ourselves. He created all and we are His children with his powers innately within us.
I have created “vision boards” mentioned in the movie/book and found them to help me focus on my goals and actually achieve them. I also believe that we put out “energy” that does attract or push away things in our lives. I think that the words we say are very, very powerful and that we should be careful what we say. What we think about, we bring about. If a person was interested in more information on the Law of Attraction, I think reading books or listening to the tapes of “Abraham” as channeled by Esther Hicks, and “The 15 Minute Miracle” written by Jaqualyn Aldana would be excellent future reads. I have been a devotee of this kind of belief long before “The Secret” and have manifested money, vacations, and healings in my own life.
I have found that you really have to believe with unwavering faith that something will happen and it is amazing what can be drawn to you through the Law of Attraction. This is not to say that bad stuff won’t happen to you or that you “caused it”. Life just happens. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer 18 months ago and have undergone all the surgeries and treatments. I didn’t want this to happen, but life happens with it’s challenges for growth and progress. It is what I do with that situation and my attitude about it that is the journey of life.
As a result of this life-threatening disease, I manifested a house move after 33 years of living in the same home, that took my husband and me to a lovely home in the redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains, CA,to heal and begin a new phase of my life, working my business at home. I have seen many “miracles” in my life and the principles of “The Secret” can truly make a difference.
I would recommend looking at the movie first, then using the book as a reference afterward. There is value in listening and seeing the people telling their experiences first hand in the movie. People may find the things that happen in the movie impossible or hard to believe, but I have seen these kind of things come to pass. I would suggest trying the steps described in the movie/book and test the results for yourself. First hand experience is the way with the FAITH that you have the POWER within to make it happen!
